Event Account brief

The February special event was NHRDN Delhi chapter initiative to showcase the HR compass - designed and developed by CII and NHRD in collaboration with XLRI, Jamshedpur.

The first part of the special event was dedicated to Late Mr. Jagdeep Khanpur who passed away in January 2010 at an early age of 51. Mr. S Y Siddiqui, President, NHRDN Delhi Chapter shared his memories and the contributions made by Mr. Khanpur to HR profession which will always be remembered. The NHRDN members, invitees, other professionals and students from Business schools who were present at the event, paid a tribute to Late Mr. Jagdeep Khanpur and had glimpses of his action-photographs which were projected on the screen for viewing.

With some pause, the second part of the session started by Mr. Rajneesh Bawa, Vice President, NHRDN Delhi Chapter,Director- HR India & SE Asia, New Holland Tractors India Pvt. LTd with a brief note on HR Compass and its importance and he invited Mr. Siddiqui to set the tone for the event and Chair the session.

Mr. N N Akhouri,Group HR Head Worlds Window Group talked in detail about the core of HR compass focusing on competencies required for HR professionals, assessment of HR competencies, design & develop Instruments / Tools for Assessment, training & developing HR professionals as Assessors and provides clear path for developing HR professionals. He touched upon the genesis and evolution of HR Compass, classification and need for lead assessors training across the four regions. He very appropriately ignited the minds of the audience and highlighted HR competency framework in context of Generic – Behavioral competency / Generic -Technical competency / Functional – Behavioral competency /Functional – Behavioral competency / Functional – Behavioral competency/ Functional – Technical competency – a must for HR business partnering role.
 
Director Group HR, Jindal Steel & Power Limited brought in industry perspective on HR competency framework and appreciated the work done by CII, NHRD and XLRI on HR compass and its relevance.  He emphasized that the HR professional need to be re-invented and that the challenge in front of the HR professionals is to rise to the expectations of the enterprises which can be accomplished
 
Mr. K K Sinha, by assessing their strength in terms of competency and ability to play business partner role. Mr. Sinha also stated categorically that there is an acute shortage of HR professionals, both in terms of quality and quantity in the country and we cannot ignore anymore the need for grooming HR professionals without focusing on HR competency as illustrated and explained in HR compass which was shared by Mr. Akhouri in his presentation.
 
The academia perspective on HR compass was brought in by Dr. C S Venkat Ratnam, Director, IMI. He stressed on the fact that the current HR course curriculum followed in most of the Business schools should assessed to ensure that it is aligned and propel students towards building right HR competencies desired by the industry and HR profession in general. He talked about the four levels of HR competency: Basic, Competent, Advance and Expert level. He clarified that HR programs should focus on the first two levels initially and subsequently to the next levels. It was encouraging to listen to the thoughts shared by the academia on making HR course curriculum at the Business school truly a competency driven to help groom young HR professionals.
 
It was very interesting to observe that the thoughts and experience shared by three speakers: Mr. Akhouri, Mr. Sinha and Dr. Venkata Ratnam converged on the extreme need of looking at HR profession from the angle of HR compass and evolving HR competencies.
 
The event concluded with Vote of Thanks by Mr. Anil Gaur, DGM HR, Maruti Suzuki India Pvt. Ltd. inviting Mr. Praveen Sinha CGM- HR, Escorts Ltd. to deliver the memento to the distinguished speakers.
