The proceedings began with the oath taking ceremony reminding all HR professionals of their commitment and integrity towards their profession.
The esteemed members were then apprised of the new NHRDN logo with its brand vision, Idea & significance of colors aimed at widening the horizons of National HRD Network.
The main program began with moderator Mr. Siddiqui, President- Delhi Chapter, NHRDN, taking charge of the deliberations following which speakers joined him on the dais.
The opening sub- section focused on “Employee Engagement Vs Industrial Relations” with Mr. Ahuja, corporate head & MD, Cadence Design sharing his thoughts on multi- generational challenges & work culture in 1990’s, where drivers of engagement were compensation, quality of work, sustainability and universality of human expectations. The compensation was extremely low & very less sustainable gain. Thereby, focusing on Enterprise management & HR.
Mr. Siddiqui- President, Delhi Chapter talked about the significance of white- collar and blue- collar jobs. He stressed on the relationship between weightage given to a variable and its impact on the variable.
Mr. Sudhakar, emphasized on the changes in Industrial Relations Industry in the past fifteen years. He said that in prior 1991, there was a concept of life time employment and award were given for long service. He stressed that since then, there is a substantial reduction in serving lifetime to one organization. Now, employee engagement has become of the key issues of HR, management cannot groom in any field without employee engagement.
Ms. Renu, Director – HR, Aricent, talked about setting up of PSU’s with large scale investment in factories, wherein, employees were forced for “collective bargaining”. She focused on Talent Management Strategy, Relationship & Bonding, People related initiatives.
Mr. Siddiqui talked about the power of core values, elements of fairness in work culture, power of appreciation that leads to building a connect with employees. He said there is a need to create enthusiasm in work by engaging employees rather than making it a monotonous job by giving few examples of inviting family members of new recruits on induction day & “Family Connect Day” at MSIL’s
Mr. Tripathi, President- HR, SRF, emphasized on two aspects for Employee Engagement, “commonality & diversity of interests”. Both should be complimentary rather than contradictory. He said that this is the first phase of employee engagement. He gave an example of Strong Quality Circle Movements at national and international levels at SRF Ltd.
All speakers shared their experiences, views & opinions on Employee Engagement. With this the session came in an interesting motley of thoughts, of the audience and speakers. The discussion moved towards its culmination with the question round. It left a lot to be thought over and a lot to be understood about HRs changing role.
This was how the session for the day came to an end with Mr. Siddiqui thanking the speakers followed by the memento delivery ceremony by Mr. Rajan, the National HRD Network President, who talked about the National Conference at Mumbai and appreciated the Delhi Chapter for maintaining the consistency of winning HRD Excellence Award, Best Chapter for the fifth time in the year 2008- 09.
